Week 2 (18th – 21st January) theme – ‘The Gruffalo’

For our second week of our planning cycle and as part of our weekly project themes, Mrs Scott and the children explored the very well known book ‘The Gruffalo!’ – a story by Julia Donaldson. In case you didn’t know, the story is about a mouse who takes a walk through the deep, dark wood and encounters many animals, but one in particular who is fearer by all! The children took part in a range of art/craft activities linking to the characters in the story. The children painted the Gruffalo and owl, made a fox, snake and mouse out of craft materials, took part in some ‘splat painting’ and put on Gruffalo feet to make Gruffalo footprints. As well as art activities, the children also learnt action rhymes relating to characters from the story, made Gruffalos from dough, rescued snakes from Jelly and enjoyed a Gruffalo hideout as part of their cosy book corner! We can’t wait for a bright and colourful theme next week! I wonder what story this theme relates to…..
